A solidarity letter from Deborah Twigger, member of the Amnesty International, to imprisoned journalist Ali Ahmet Böken.
Deborah Twigger stated in her letter that Böken was not alone.
Twigger, called for Böken “to stay strong”, said that as Amnesty International, they are fighting for the release of Böken.
The letter:
“Dear Ahmet,
It was schocking to hear your arrest following the Coup in Turkey in 2016. Even more schocking is the severity of your sentence. 9 years for simply doing your job as a successful and highly proffessional Tv news editor.
The media must not be silenced. A free media is essencial for democracy.
Please know you are not alone. We at Amnesty International are fighting for your release. Stay strong!
Yours in solidarity Deborah”
Ali Ahmet Böken took part in the establishment of TRT HABER channel and in 2012, together with his team, TRT HABER received the award in the “People’s Choice Channel” category at the Eutelsat TV Awards competition.
Sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison after July 15, Böken is currently detained in Aksehir T-type prison.
